Art is everywhere

What? Where?

Back around early 2023, I noticed random red signals all around Bangalore turn into small hearts as part of a campaign by Manipal hospitals to raise awareness about cardiac health, which on a quick glance I thought was cool, but later thought more in depth and realised that someone came up with the idea of turning red circular lights that are all around us into small hearts. They reimagined something so common and normal like a signal to be a heart.

This thought faded away for a while until recently I heard a song by South Arcade that used a parking sound in their song and it reminded me of these smaller things around me where love for the game is thrown in.

Easter eggs are also a great way of seeing at things differently or with a new perspective because it requires that you look outside your current outlook on a thing. Finding easter eggs/small hidden details in software is a way that i’ve come to appreciate the use of things in ways they weren’t meant to be used, like how Linear plugs that they’re hiring in the browser console.

and one of the best things that’s happened around me that taught me to spot art in everyday things is the pothole art that was done in Bangalore where artists reimagined potholes around them to look and feel different to people who view them as a part of our everyday’s now. They shouldn’t be and bringing attention to them by spacewalking on them

How do they do it?

A bigger part that i’ve changed in the way i see a lot of things is to fake having the eye for things until i eventually do. Hearts around me, in random things is something i’ve had an eye out for for a while now and it comes way easier now. I see it in the froth of my coffee, on a pothole or on an oddly shaped shadow that barely resembles a heart. I especially love it when the local darshini near where I live serves me a cup of filter coffee with a heart on it :)
